I use my AI tool (Claude) nearly every day.
I use it to
- test my thinking and learn about new topics
- quickly get ideas on paper and refine them
- brainstorm ideas
- draft proposals
- and lots more
It has limitations, of course. But what an incredible tool.
Claude is good at following directions. Really good.
If you feel like you spend a lot of your day following directions from your boss — “do this, don’t do this, change this, update that” — then there’s a good chance AI is will gradually replace a lot of what you do.
But there’s another path. Actually, a lot of them.
You can become the person who
- thinks strategically and presents ideas
- persuades, inspires and leads other
- makes tough decisions with confidence
- spots opportunities others miss
- elevates the conversation in the room
But you can’t get there if you spend your whole day following directions and giving directions. You’ll be overwhelmed with instructions, details, and requirements. And because you’re thinking this way, you’ll pass this thinking on to your team. I know — I’ve been there.
Last week I opened a program called From Doing to Leading. In 4 weeks, you’ll learn to shift from giving step-by-step instructions to setting clear outcomes — so your team develops the judgment to solve problems without you.
Here’s how it creates breathing room:
- When you stop prescribing every step, your team learns to find their own solutions.
- When you give feedback that teaches rather than rescues, the team can apply the learning going forward.
- When you clarify what “done” looks like up front, work comes back closer to what you actually wanted — the first time.
This frees you from the endless cycle of directing, fixing, and answering the same questions repeatedly.
Your team gets stronger. And you get space to think strategically instead of managing every detail.
If this resonates with you (or if you lead managers who face this challenge), go here for the details. Registration is open through Nov. 14.
